The heart behind Gimme Shelter.
Still saving lives — just doing it differently now.
A 20-Year Rescue Legacy- Reimagined.
If you’ve known me longer than five minutes, you know this: I’ve been rescuing animals since birth. I’ve scooped up strays, brought home a chicken from Tennessee to our suburban neighborhood (my poor rents), and built a life around helping the voiceless. Rescue wasn’t a job. It was the beat of my heart.
Gimme Shelter didn’t start with a foster form, or a kennel run. It started with a TV show.
Yep, a local Pet Adoption TV show in Sarasota, Florida, where I interviewed heroes, highlighted underdogs, and introduced the world to the beautiful chaos of animal rescue. Foster Babe & Foster Bloke was one of my favorite segments, inspired by my fierce, fabulous friend Julie Royal, who is now rescuing from the other side. That show ran for five years and lit a fire in me that never went out.
From there, Gimme Shelter Pet Adoption evolved into a full-blown non-profit with a growing foster program, powered by the most compassionate humans I’ve ever known. We worked with high-kill shelters across Florida, dogs on death row, seniors discarded like trash, mamas and babies tossed out like last season’s furniture. We said YES when others said no. We saved thousands.
And all while I was holding down a full-time career as a PR Director for a billion-dollar company, creating campaigns, throwing events, schmoozing like a pro. It was fun, and I was damn good at it. But when I wasn’t making the rich richer, I was using my own paycheck to fund my rescue work. No regrets. That was love.
Then COVID happened.
Everyone wanted a pet... until the world “opened back up.” What followed was heartbreaking: dumped dogs, overwhelmed shelters, and a level of apathy I wasn’t emotionally prepared for. The world I loved, including my city, St. Pete… changed. So, did I.
We made a bold move: We started over.
My husband, Terrill, became a realtor.
I reinvented myself as a designer and creative entrepreneur.
And we relocated to the North Georgia mountains, where I now share my world with 9 rescue dogs, a small army of feral cats, 50+ semi-tame deer, black bears, foxes, chipmunks, and the soundtrack of birdsong every single day.
And here’s where it gets Aaamazing!
I decided to pour all that heart, all that creative fire, into my own business:
Deerly Beloved Designs
Art, design, staging, shirts, prints, all thought-provoking, often funny, and always full of soul. And with every sale, I’m giving back. So go check out https://www.deerlybeloved.com
Here’s how it works:
I donate 10% of everything I make — T-shirts, art, staging projects, interior design services, you name it, to fund emergency vet care for pets whose humans can’t afford it.
No GoFundMe circus. No begging. No shame.
Because when someone is already brokenhearted over their sick pet, they shouldn’t have to put their financial situation on blast just to get help.
We believe in privacy. Dignity. Respect.
We work directly with vets to quietly cover costs when an animal’s life is on the line.
This is rescue, evolved.
I may not be bottle-feeding puppies at 3 AM anymore (though, never say never), but I’m still in it.
Still saving lives.
Still fighting for the forgotten.
Still here for the underdog.
Just doing it with more style, more soul, and a whole lot more WTF energy.
If you love what I do, support it.
If you shop Deerly Beloved, you're part of it.
And if you ever doubted whether one person could still make a difference in a messy, heartbroken world…
Hi. It’s me.
Still trying. Still giving. Still believing.
